What are Invisalign Clear Aligners?
When teeth are straight and properly aligned, they look great and are easier to clean and maintain. Patients who shy away from the idea of wearing metal braces may find Invisalign® clear aligners for teeth straightening to be an effective alternative. These custom-made aligner trays work by gradually guiding teeth into their proper places. Invisalign aligners are not right for every patient, but for those concerned about the aesthetics of traditional metal braces, these practically invisible aligners are a great option to straighten teeth without being obvious. For a straighter, healthier smile without the challenges and look of metal, Invisalign treatment may be an excellent option for teens and adults.

About Invisalign Teen® Orthodontics
Invisalign Teen clear braces is an orthodontic system specifically created to provide solutions to the specific needs of adolescents. Younger patients who may be embarrassed to wear metal braces may benefit from this option, as well as those who play musical instruments. Brackets and wires can increase the risk of soft tissue injury during sports and musical activities, making Invisalign teen treatment an ideal option for these patients. Though your teen can remove Invisalign clear aligners, they contain blue indicator dots on the mouth trays that fade when aligners are properly worn. This compliance feature helps parents and our team know if the aligners are being worn appropriately and supports your teen's progress toward their planned smile outcome.

Who is a Candidate for Invisalign Clear Aligners?
Those who wish to avoid the look, feel, and risk of mouth injury that may come with traditional metal braces may benefit from treatment with Invisalign clear aligners. Advanced digital technology is used to create the clear aligners used in every customized approach to our patients' common orthodontic problems. Worn for 20 – 22 hours each day, these discreet, clear aligner trays are easy to remove for brushing and flossing the teeth and before eating. Adults and teens appreciate that they are often able to straighten their teeth without their friends and loved ones noticing.
Traditional braces are still the best option for some patients, but Invisalign treatments can address several types of orthodontic concerns such as gapped teeth, poor bite, crooked teeth, and crowded teeth.
Some of our patients have orthodontic problems due to genetics or developmental issues, thumb-sucking as a child, tooth loss, and oral injuries. It is important to treat bite misalignments and other orthodontic concerns early in development to avoid other dental problems like gum recession, chipped or worn teeth, and TMJ problems. Those with a misaligned bite may also have trouble eating comfortably and speaking properly. If you are experiencing problems like these with your teeth and jaw, Invisalign trays may be the ideal solution to straighten your teeth, correct your bite (how the lower and upper teeth fit together), and create a healthy, radiant smile.
How Does the Invisalign System Work?
A comprehensive orthodontic consultation is the first step to help you or your teen decide if this treatment is the best approach. We will take detailed 3D images of your teeth, jawbone, and facial structures to understand a full picture of your orthodontic health. An intra-oral scanner will map out the details of your teeth in our advanced software program so that we can properly plan your Invisalign treatment. The Invisalign teeth straightening system uses a series of clear aligners to apply gentle pressure to your teeth to move them into the correct spots in your mouth. Our special lab crafts your custom Invisalign trays, and once they are made, we will have you try on your clear aligners and go over instructions on appropriate use.
You will wear each set of trays for two weeks before you switch them out for the next set in your series. The sets of trays are numbered so it is easy to tell which comes next in the series. You will visit our office at 4 – 6 intervals to let our team evaluate your progress and adjust your treatment as needed. Treatment with Invisalign adult aligners and Invisalign Teen aligners often lasts about a year, but depending on individual patient needs, that timeline may vary.
After Invisalign Orthodontic Treatment
Once your teeth have reached their final location, a retainer will be made for you to wear. It is very important for you to wear your retainer properly to keep your teeth in position while your jaw stabilizes. Invisalign Vivera® retainers are crafted using the same clear, comfortable materials as your Invisalign aligner trays. We will let you know how long you should wear your retainers, and you should plan to wear them at all times for at least the first few months after your Invisalign treatment is over. To prevent your teeth from migrating back to their original, problem positions, it is crucial for you to wear your retainers exactly as recommended by our team, as this is an integral part of your orthodontic treatment. You should bring your retainer to each of your biannual cleaning and exam visits to let us check the fit and continue to monitor your bite.
