What Are Digital X-Rays?
Dental x-rays are an essential part of your comprehensive exam. It is easy to check your teeth and gums for problems with tooth decay or damage, gum inflammation, and loose restorations when we do your exams. X-rays, though, let our dentist and team view what exists beneath the gums. Dental x-rays may be the only way to identify certain oral concerns like cavities in between the teeth and under restorations, bone loss, cysts or endodontic abscesses, and impacted teeth. In order for your family to receive the highest-quality care at Made Ya Smile Spring Cypress, we recommend digital x-rays each year and as needed in order to evaluate certain oral concerns.
To ensure we give you and your family the highest level of safe and minimally invasive care, low-radiation digital x-rays are used at our family dental practice. Producing 90 percent less radiation than traditional films, digital x-rays are a healthier diagnostic alternative used to illuminate oral structures in great detail. With these advanced digital systems, it is possible for our dentist to be more accurate with the diagnostic process, enabling better treatment options for your family's smiles. When Are Dental X-Rays Taken?
A detailed view of your tooth roots, bone, and other jaw structures becomes clearer with digital x-rays. Safe for patients at every age, digital dental radiograph imaging can be an important component of a comprehensive dental exam. It may also be relied on to provide detail to assess specific concerns or problems when pain, injury, or other oral concerns affect your smile. Dental x-rays are only taken to help prevent problems or as a part of your restorative plan when necessary to improve your oral health. Though only a small amount of radiation is used, we still aim to minimize your exposure. If you are pregnant or think you may be pregnant, please let us know before having any x-rays taken.
Dental x-rays are used to evaluate and diagnose a wide variety of dental issues including cavities between the teeth, infections, malfunctioning restorations, compromised fillings, poor bite, and wisdom teeth.
What Can I Expect With Digital Dental X-Rays?
Typically, we take x-rays at the beginning of your exam to use the images as we provide your care. Faster, safer, and more convenient than their traditional film counterparts, digital x-rays can be taken in under ten minutes. A small sensor will be placed next to your teeth in different areas of your mouth to capture images during your x-ray. Once exposed, the image is recorded on our computer and stored within your individual digital patient record. Our dentist will read your x-rays to go over any areas of concern with you.
How Often Are Dental X-Rays Taken?
Different x-rays may be taken depending on your needs (preventive or restorative) and depending on when your last set was taken. At your first visit at Made Ya Smile Spring Cypress, we will take either a full set of digital x-rays or a panoramic x-ray. These images will help us to evaluate your entire jaw, teeth, roots, and bone. This full series or panoramic typically only needs to be taken every 3 – 5 years. Every year for preventive reasons we take bitewing x-rays, which allow our dentist to monitor your mouth for cavities and bone level changes of the back teeth. Digital x-rays taken on a preventive basis can allow us to catch problems early on and treat them before they become more complex, requiring costlier or more extensive care.
Are Digital X-Rays Covered by Insurance?
Usually, dental insurance plans provide coverage for dental x-rays. A full mouth series or panoramic x-ray is typically covered every 3 to 5-years and bitewing x-rays are typically covered once per year. A member of our business team will reach out to your provider and examine your specific benefits. At Made Ya Smile Spring Cypress, our goal is to provide your family with great care for optimal oral health. We are happy to go over our flexible financing options and convenient payment methods with you if you need them to help make your treatment more affordable.
