What Are Dentures?
A beautiful smile can be within reach at any stage of life. At Made Ya Smile Spring Cypress, we know that losing your natural teeth can affect your oral function, self-confidence, and your appearance. To remedy many of these problems resulting from the loss of several or all of your teeth, we provide aesthetic denture solutions for our Houston, TX patients. Our dentist and the Made Ya Smile team are skilled at replacing missing teeth for adults using custom removable partial and full dentures. We make these dentures out of high-quality materials designed to give you a natural appearance. Choosing dentures from Made Ya Smile can help you to regain a youthful, confident smile after tooth loss and maintain facial shape, eating and speaking abilities. Your dentures will be customized to fit your unique jaw structure and conveniently replace missing teeth.
When all of your upper or lower teeth are missing or need to be replaced, full dentures are used, and these are held in place by the natural shape of the jaw or with the help of a small bit of adhesive. Existing teeth help anchor partial dentures, which fill in spaces in the smile that appear when several teeth are lost. Tooth loss does not have to stop you from enjoying your life. Call our family dental practice today if you feel you need dentures to regain your confidence and comfort.

Should I Get Dentures?
Dentures have seen many advancements over the years. Materials used to construct them now look more like natural tooth and gum structures and are lighter weight for your comfort. Those with damaged teeth that cannot be restored or have lost a few or all of the teeth within an arch may be excellent candidates for dentures.
If you still have teeth that are healthy enough to support a denture, it may be good to consider a partial denture. It is best to opt for full dentures when the gum tissues are healthy and the underlying jaw bone contours are supportive enough to hold the denture in place. For some patients, full or partial dentures may be attached to a set of dental implants placed in the jaw for enhanced support through a fixed denture option. Our dentist has created many custom dentures for patients and is happy to work with you to understand whether this option is right for you. When you come in for your consultation, we can go over your options and their benefits. We want to help you find the denture solution that best matches your oral health needs, budget, and cosmetic preferences.
How Do Dentures Work?
In order to make your custom dentures, we take an impression of your upper and lower arches. Prior to extracting any teeth that need to be replaced with a denture, we will take an impression of your teeth so we can create an immediate (temporary) denture for you to wear as your gum tissues heal and while you wait for your permanent appliance to be fabricated. Your impressions will be sent to our professional dental lab. They will craft your denture according to our specific instructions using the highest quality materials, like resin, metal framework, or lightweight acrylic material, depending on your unique smile needs. We also custom design replacement teeth to match your remaining teeth in size, shape, and color for a natural-looking and attractive appearance. Once our lab finishes your new dentures and they are sent back to our practice, we will ask you to return so we can attach them to your implants or have you try them on. Any necessary adjustments to ensure a comfortable fit can be made at that time. We will also provide you with tips on how to store, clean, and care for your new set of dentures.
What Can I Expect After Getting Dentures?
Many patients find it takes some time to get used to dentures. It should not take too long, however, for your new dentures to feel like part of your natural smile. Before you know it, you should be able to eat and speak with greater ease. Our dentist may recommend a small amount of denture adhesive to provide stability for your full-arch appliance, especially for upper dentures. It is easy to place and remove partial dentures from your mouth. These types of dentures should attach firmly to your natural teeth using resin or metal clasps. When we give you your dentures, we will explain how to place and remove them and can make any adjustments for the ideal fit. Our dentist can also adjust your denture at a later date when or if you notice changes in how it fits.
To clean your denture, you should use a toothbrush or denture brush with toothpaste after each meal and soak your dentures in water overnight as you sleep. This will keep them from shrinking or changing shape and ensure they continue to have a comfortable fit. We recommend continuing to schedule routine cleanings and exams with the Made Ya Smile Spring Cypress team, even though dentures are not natural tooth structure. We will use these appointments to clean your denture, which will help get rid of stains, and to monitor the health of your jaw and gums. Well-cared-for dentures can last for many years, and during our routine checkups, we can monitor their condition to let you know when they need to be relined or replaced.
Are Dentures Covered by Insurance?
Partial or full dentures may be covered in part by your dental insurance. We accept most PPO insurance plans and will file your claims with your provider for you. When you are at our office for your consultation, we can go over your treatment options and make sure to customize your care to meet your oral health needs and your budget. Our Houston, TX practice accepts several convenient payment methods, like low-interest financing through CareCredit®, to help you cover the cost of your dentures.
